The Last of Us Breakdowns
Joel and Ellie, a pair connected through the harshness of their world, are forced to endure brutal circumstances and ruthless killers on a trek across a post-outbreak America.
Finally, the season finale of The Last of Us, season 1, prompts viewers to consider the moral ambiguity and challenges presented in the story. It remains one of the best and continues to be hotly debated. Does the show do the game justice, and what are your thoughts on Joel's actions?
Today's podcast will discuss episodes seven and eight of The Last of Us on HBO. Episode seven delves into Ellie's past and her experience with using a gun, highlighting the harsh reality of the world. Episode eight intensifies Joel's situation and presents Ellie with a daunting challenge. Despite expectations for a heroic rescue, Joel ultimately saves Ellie from a dire situation.
In episode six of The Last of Us on HBO, Ellie and Joel journey further west, encountering a group of people in the snowy mountains. They are taken to the town of Jackson, where they find Tommy. Joel begins to doubt his ability to complete the mission of getting Ellie to the Fireflies and asks Tommy to take over. This creates tension and uncertainty in their relationship. The episode ends with Joel getting injured, leaving Ellie to try to save him.
In episode five of The Last of Us on HBO, we learn more about Sam and Henry's backstory and their interaction with Joel and Ellie. The climax involves an intense confrontation, and chaos erupts as infected are released underground. The emotional story between Sam and Henry is highlighted, raising the question of whether one would want to continue living after losing a loved one.
Today's podcast continues our breakdown of The Last of Us on HBO with episode four. Episode four continues the story of Joel and Ellie. We get some relationship-building while on the road. Still, they detour into Kanas city. Very quickly, something is off inside the city without FEDRA presence, and bandits attack them. Joel and Ellie fight their way through the encounter. We learn a bit more about who these bandits are, but most of this episode feels like a setup for the next episode. The episode closes with Joel letting the dad jokes get him, and finally, we see the rugged survivalist begin to let down his guard.
Today's podcast continues our breakdown of The Last of Us on HBO with episode three. Episode three is, so far, the most significant departure from what those familiar with the game will see. While Joel and Ellie are still featured in the episode, we mostly follow the lives of two other survivors, Bill and Frank. Instead of facing the grim reality that the end of the world has in store for our characters, we face a different story. Can you still find love, keep your humanity, and protect someone when it would be easier just to be alone?
Today's podcast continues our breakdown of The Last of Us on HBO with episode two! We discussed what we liked, what had changed from the game, and other details that caught our attention while watching the episode. Episode 2 gives context on the origins of infection. Joel and Tess confront what Ellie could mean for the future of humanity. While Tess is hopeful, Joel remains mission-focused and unwilling to feel anything. However, with the events at the end of the episode, Joel must choose to take on the responsibility or give up.
In today's episode, we are starting our breakdown of the newly released series The Last of Us based on the game of the same name! In this episode, we cover the major story beats, what we enjoyed, and what we hope to come. Finally, we try to dive a little bit deeper into the show. As game fans, seeing an adaption done well is refreshing for us.
See Breakdowns
In the twenty-first century, a virus wiped out most of humanity. Less than two million people survived, and their distant descendants have all lost their sense of sight. See takes place several centuries later when society found new ways to socially interact, build, hunt, and survive without vision. The concept of vision has become a myth, and any mention of it is considered heresy.
We discuss the final episode of the first season of See!, the season's climaxes, and the setup for season two.
In this episode, we see all the threads beginning to come together. Maghra and Queen Kane connect after being rescued by Tamacti Jun. We see a new side of Maghra as a ruler that Queen Kane will likely contest. Tamacti Jun, the ever-dutiful soldier, earns even more points as a loyal general and fighter. Baba Voss and the children continue to the end of the journey. Baba is torn by bringing the kids he raised to a man who didn't want to be in their life. The episode ends at the edge of the unknown utopia of Jerlamarel.
In this episode, we learn more about Maghra's past and why she exiled herself. Boot's plays both sides of the leaving Baba Voss and his family trapped in a cave. Meanwhile, we see how Queen Kane is adjusting to her capture. Finally, the episode ends with Boot's making a powerplay to solidify his position as Maghra's right hand.
The breakdown of See continues with episode 5, "Plastic." The episode continues the repercussions of Queen Kane's choices. Baba Voss and his family get their stolen supplies back from a scavenger with an unlikely connection. The episode ends with Tamacti Jun's army catching up and Maghra's past being revealed.
The breakdown continues with episode 4 four, "The River" The village is attacked by the Witchfinder Army and pushes Baba Voss' family to make sacrifices and face new challenges. Meanwhile, Queen Kane faces struggles closer to home that will shape the fate of her people. Also notable in this episode are Kofun and Haniwa seeing how they navigate the world differently.
The third episode of See Season 1 is one of the best yet! From start to finish, you see how character decisions affect each other. Most notably, you learn how the twins develop into fully-fledged characters and begin to diverge in temperament. We also learn more about Baba Voss's past and why he seems so hardened by life. The capstone of the episode is one of the best-executed fight scenes in TV series.
Jordan and Erich continue the breakdown of the TV Show See. Next, we'll be talking about the second episode of the series called Message In a Bottle as a title. This episode is much less action-packed and increases the tension between the main characters by setting up points of future contention. But, as with the last episode, we also talk about the small details that sell the immersion in the story.
In this episode, Jordan and Erich are discussing the first episode of the Apple TV exclusive See. This will be a short-run series as we watch and talk about each episode of the season. Our goal is to provide insights into the storytelling and technical aspects of the series.
