Worth Listening

Painfotainment | Hardcore history

In this episode of Hardcore History, Dan Carlin takes us through the strange history of public executions throughout history. At times these acts of torture feel like ancient times. But at the same Carlin is clear that people who enjoyed watching these spectacles were no different from you or me genetically. So the question is, are we that different? All it takes is one incendiary event, and we could be back to these old ways. We should remind ourselves of this capacity so that our better angels are in the driver's seat. Listener discretion is advised as the descriptions may be intense for some.

An open letter from The Deep to America | The Deep

I agree wholeheartedly with this article. Especially with the "We get what we give." That couldn't be more true, and we could use more people to understand this small fact. By behaving in the way you hope others, would you raise the bar for everyone.

After Testing Positive (and Negative) for Covid-19, Elon Musk Contacted a Harvard Doctor. The Response Is a Master Class in Emotional Intelligence | Inc.

I feel like the title says everything I could say about emotional intelligence, in a world where most people have a stance and stick with its work taking a moment to reach out and connect to them even if you disagree with their perspective.

The Insane Biology of The Octopus | Real Science

This video gives into the fantastic and strange biology of the octopus. I'm continually amazed by the variety of life on this planet. The octopus, in particular, stands out because of its intelligence. If we step outside of the mammal centric view of intelligence, then we can see a completely independent manifestation that could truly regard these cephalopods as aliens.

Do apologies matter? | Freethink

From what this short video covers, apologies can go a long way to getting people to look past in group and out-group. Suppose we can forge bonds by appealing to our shared humanity.

Worth Pondering
