Brian Kluska on Media, Challenging Assumptions and Being A Military Spouse

In this episode, we are joined by Brian Kluska. Brian grew up in Blairstown, NJ, and received a B.A. in Mass Media and Communications from Mount Saint Mary College. Brian worked for ten years as Videographer and Video Editor for a few production companies. Projects spanned from corporate commercials, interviews and deposition, long and short-form comedy, and even a product highlight video for U.S. Senate Appropriation Committee.

Brian's personal and professional path has provided experience in various situations and experiences. Marrying his high school sweetheart of 13 years has brought even more opportunities in life. In addition, Brian is now a military spouse, getting a new chapter that has enabled further personal and professional growth.

Eric Fretz: The Navy, Building Virtuous Cults, and The Meandering Path

Dr. Eric Fretz is a faculty member at the University of Michigan ( https://umich.edu/), teaching at the University of Michigan in the Psychology Department, the School of Education, and the College of Engineering, and teaches the LSA core course for the Minor in Entrepreneurship. Dr. Fretz has completed two Bachelors's degrees, two Masters degrees, and a dual Ph.D. in Education and Psychology. Retired from 20 years of active and reserve service as a commissioned officer in the United States Navy. He began his career on USS CHOSIN (CG-65), deploying for the first Persian Gulf War and qualifying as Fleet & Special Evolutions OOD, Gas Turbine EOOW, and Surface Warfare Officer. His military career included three deployments to the Persian Gulf, from Operation Desert Storm to Operation Iraqi Freedom. He closed out his career with a year-long mobilization to Baghdad, Iraq, serving in the Multi-National Corps – Iraq, assigned to the 'Army's 18th Airborne Corps in 2008. While in Iraq, he also started a scout troop and built a camp for Iraqi youth around Victory Base. He has earned over 30 military awards, including the Bronze Star Medal and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal.

Dante Brooks and Jordan Criss: Cultural Chameleons

In this episode, Dante returns, giving us an update on what has happened since the last time he was on the show. Dante has started his first semester back in school and is pursuing a degree in radiology and an acting class. On the other side, Dante has been looking inwards and talking to a therapist. Dante shares his experiences with discrimination from both sides. Jordan also shares his thought on this challenging subject. They have had to be cultural chameleons able to morph into the representations of both the broader American culture and the African American cultural expectations.

Bill Waterstreet on Being a Leader and Learning

Bill Waterstreet is a Marine Corps veteran and current student at the University of Michigan. He served four years in the Corps, primarily in public affairs and information operations, including a deployment to Afghanistan. He left the military in 2015 as a sergeant. He began classes at U of M. He is studying mechanical and electrical engineering and is currently the President of the Student Veterans of America - UM Ann Arbor chapter. He's originally from Troy, MI.
