PODCASTS
Eric Herrera on Being Yourself
On this episode of the podcast, our guest today is Eric Herrera. Eric is one of my oldest friends at over ten years running. He has worked as a Tower Climber for cellphone towers and other hands-on jobs. For him, the question asked was how to be yourself. I know that's a straightforward question, but we all are working in the context of our situations, and Eric does not filter who is in any situation. Being yourself is as much a skill as anything else we can do.
Jonny Michael on What it Means to Wear a Uniform
In this episode of the podcast, we have Jonny Michael. Jonny has served in the Army. After his service in the military, he chose to continue wearing a uniform as a police officer. We get into why he has chosen this path and the tools used to stay in shape. He mentions many times that everything is a process.
Joe Jackowski: Summer Recap
In this episode of the podcast, Joe and Erich have a relaxed conversation, recapping what we did over the summer and talking about upcoming classes or any other exciting ideas on our minds.
Wyatt Mach on Chasing Perfection
We have our first interview guest in this podcast episode: Wyatt Mach. Wyatt is an avid hunter and athlete when not working long hours for his family business. But first, we get into who he is and why he pushes himself so hard. He says many times that it’s the chase for perfection that drives him.
Addiction, Anxiety and Depression
The guys discuss addiction, anxiety, and depression in this podcast episode. The topics we discussed are complex, and we barely scratch their surface. None of us are trained in this area, and we don't pretend to be, so anything we say is just talking through a complex topic. We want to find better solutions for these situations. Lastly, I'd like to thank Ben for articulating his anxiety experiences in such a concise way.
Art, Life and Literature
First-time guest Jordan Criss joins Erich and Joe. This conversation started with whether a well-known public person can be separated from their work and that person's character. Next, we meander to other topics on life and how Joe found his interest in deep philosophy. Finally, we close out with some books and podcasts.
Getting into Fitness
In this episode, Erich and Joe talk about how they started working out and getting themselves into a healthier place. This episode attempted a more structured conversation around our views of fitness and closely related topics.
Ideas on the Future
In this episode, Joe and Erich have a conversation starting with Yuval Noah Harari. Next, the conversation branched into recent philosophy topics Joe has been working with. Finally, we transitioned into a more general discussion on the future's direction and other related ideas.
Film Deep Dive: Annihilation
Erich and Joe sit down to discuss the recent film Annihilation. The first half is spoiler-free so that all listeners can enjoy it, and we give fair warning when we cross into spoiler territory. If you want to remain spoiler-free, watching the movie and returning to finish the episode is highly recommended!
Annihilation is a 2018 British-American science fiction horror film written and directed by Alex Garland, based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Jeff VanderMeer. It stars Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Tuva Novotny, and Óscar Isaac. The story follows a group of explorers who enter "The Shimmer," a mysterious quarantined zone of mutating plants and animals caused by an alien presence.
The Random Show
Welcome to the first-ever random show of the podcast. Joe is home on spring break, so we decided to grab a few beers, sit down and have a candid conversation about what's happening. As it is aptly named, we jump from topic to topic on this, so see the list of notes to keep track of what we talk about.
Dipping into Developmental Psychology
Erich is joined by his brother Nick and Joe Jackowski. Joe attends the University of Michigan in the psychology program. Joe wanted to talk about topics he's been studying and bring everyone along for the ride.
Elon Musk and Inspiration
In this episode, we talk about Elon Musk and how he created a rocket company. If you are interested in learning more about Elon, check out this fantastic book, Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future by Ashlee Vance. Much of what I summarize in this conversation only scratches the surface.
